Introduction from your camera man.
Hey everyone, thank you so much for your interest in this site. My goal is to bring to our viewers videos that are not only packed with information, but are fun to watch and the best of quality. Currently on our videos page you may notice the quality in videos varies between each. Throughout this venture our experience and resources have grown, so I can promise better quality from here on through. Recently we have upgraded camera equipment, editing software, and lighting equipment. I will always be researching and upgrading to bring to you the best videos possible given our equipment. Our most recent videos (Jell-O, scalloped potatoes, and orange ginger pork loin) are of higher quality, and better lighting. So I ask that you bear through the lower quality videos adapted from You-Tube and remember our videos are always getting better! Thank You. On Sunday, June 28th the site crashed due to insufficient bandwidth from a flood of viewers. We did not anticipate the site to be so popular! However, we have expanded our bandwidth limits and the site is once again up and running… I apologize about any inconvenience. If this happens in the future just remember we are always monitoring our site, and any problems should be fixed within hours. Our bandwidth is now six times larger and should fit all of you viewers! Thanks again for all of your interest! It’s exciting to know we are being noticed. –Steve-

I first learned about Tammy from Youtube and those videos were great. I can't wait to see more from all of you!
Thanks!
Debbie
I have been also watching Tammy on Youtube, but with this website I know all of us will be greatly educated by this awesome lady and her family of cameramen and food tasters. It is so very refreshing to see it as a family affair, You go girl -you rock!! I put you in my favorites and hope to see more video's in the future. Thanks Tammy...
The new videos are awesome! I really enjoyed the shelf-building episode. It was so well done and was so fun to watch! And I love seeing the whole family. You guys rock! Keep them coming...
Hi Steve,
You are doing a fantastic job on the videos. I teach video production at our local high school and was wondering what type of equipment and editing software you're using.
Robin
Hi Robin!, its great to see someone with interest in my work also! Here is the set-up for the most recent 5 or so videos... Currently I am working with one of the newer sony handycam models (DCR-SX41) that records in mpeg2 format straight to internal memory. Since Dehydrate2store was a recent venture and started from scratch I had to settle with a low cost camera to begin (about 300$), but i hope to buy a proffetional camera in the near future. The camera itself is easy to use, and takes great quality shots for what i need! the downfall is it records into mpeg2 which slightly compresses the file reducing the quality by a small amount. However i run the files through Corel Videostudio 12, which accepts the mpeg2 format and then i can compress to a very large Dv-avi type format and subsiquently get the best quality i can from my amateur camera. Another downfall to the camera is no external mic, which makes it hard to record crisp audio, this is the main reason i am trying to get a better camera. As for editing software Corel Videostudio is great! its affordable and easy to use, has a bunch of useful fades and effects and even soundboard style audio editing. You can publish your edited vids into a ton of different formats and the program accepts many formats as well! (which is a problem with programs such as windows movie maker which require you to first convert to WMV file, and hurt your quality) The finished videos with this equipment turns out in very nice quality, however the quality on the website is unfortunately downgraded because my files must first be converted to FLV (flash video) format to run on the internet. If you must convert to FLV always use the highest quality possible (measured in bit rate) I developed a mathematical equation using a couple ratios to determine the best bit-rate quality i can obtain in the limited amount of space each video can fill on the site. So there ya go! the behind the scenes to our online videos! Im always working to make the video quality better, hopefully a new camera is in the near future for me, but until then i have to squeeze what i can out of this lemon ;-) haha if you have any advice i would love to hear it, thanks!
Steve,
Thanks for the great run down on your video system. The camera you're using is close in quality to the ones I purchased for my program. The only exception is we record to cassettes so each student can keep there tapes with them. It works better in a school setting. I did purchase one camera that had an external mic, but I wasn't that impressed with the quality of sound. I do like the Carl Ziess lens that come on the Sony cameras. We're working on mac computers and use Final Cut Express as the video editing software. I would have liked to get Final Cut Pro, but there was too much expense and really the express version works fine. I've never checked out Corel Videostudio. I'll have to do that. Thanks for your explanations on converting your file. I've struggled with quality vs. format all year. Finalcut gives us many options but it's just a mater of trial and error. Good luck with you're quest for a new camera. Technology changes so fast that prices drop quickly. The cameras that I thought were cutting edge 5 years ago are selling for next to nothing on ebay. You're doing a fantastic job. I look forward to seeing what you're currently working on.
Robin
Excellent Work and Thank you for the efforts!
The videos are a pleasure to watch and are an outstanding source of information.
